Failed Japanese Moon Lander Hits Lunar Surface Upside Down

via Pixabay

A Japanese lunar lander experienced an abnormal landing on the Moon, ending up standing on its nose with its engines pointing upwards.

This positioning has caused difficulties in generating essential electricity.

The spacecraft’s main engine anomaly affected its landing attitude, potentially due to one of the thrusters malfunctioning during descent.

“An abnormality in the main engine affected the landing attitude of the spacecraft,” Japanese space agency Jaxa stated.

Despite the challenges, officials remain hopeful that the probe will be able to recharge when the lunar surface enters its daytime.

The event marks Japan as the fifth country to achieve a soft touchdown on the moon.
